Large Square, Small Square, and Huet Square link the medieval old town. Cafés, the Brukenthal Museum, and the Bridge of Lies are all within a few steps.

Romania's Saxon jewel. A medieval old town below the Făgăraș mountains, with direct flights from Munich and Vienna.
Get to know the city
Sibiu (historically Hermannstadt) was founded by Saxon settlers in the 12th century and remained a majority German-speaking community well into the 20th century. The medieval old town is one of the best preserved in Romania, with cobbled squares, the Lutheran Cathedral's Gothic spire, and the famously watchful eyes peering from the rooftops.
The Saxon thread is still everywhere: in the architecture, the food, the churches, and in the dentists who trained in or hold dual qualifications with German-speaking countries. Sibiu held the European Capital of Culture title in 2007 alongside Luxembourg, and the investment from that period is still visible.
For German, Austrian, and Swiss patients in particular, Sibiu often feels less like a foreign trip and more like a familiar central European city, with a meaningfully lower cost of living and treatment.

The Gothic centrepiece of the old town. The bell tower offers a wide panorama of Sibiu and the Făgăraș range to the south.

The Făgăraș range and the Transfăgărășan road, often described as one of the world's most scenic drives, are within an easy day trip from Sibiu.
Lufthansa operates 16 flights weekly from Munich (1h 40m), and Austrian Airlines connects Vienna directly. Wizz Air adds routes from London Luton, Barcelona, Madrid, Dortmund, Memmingen, Basel, and Hamburg.
Sibiu was founded by Saxon settlers in the 12th century and was historically known as Hermannstadt. The German cultural thread is still present in the architecture, food traditions, and in many dentists who trained in German-speaking countries.
The old town, clinics, hotels, and restaurants are all within easy walking distance or a short taxi ride. Patients travelling alone consistently find it one of the more straightforward Romanian cities to manage independently.
A newer city in my network changes nothing about the checks: my own visits, recommendations from clinics I already trust, and how a clinic communicates and follows up. I don't recommend until that's done.
Given the city's heritage and proximity to German-speaking markets, both languages are well represented at international-facing clinics. I confirm language capability before any referral.
I am building my Sibiu clinic relationships now. Early enquiries are welcome: I will confirm availability and coordinate your full plan once a partner clinic is confirmed.
